Centigrade wins eLearning AWARD 2025 for innovative learning solution “34d City”

January 14th, 2025

Centigrade and Swiss Life Germany have jointly developed the innovative project “34d City”, which has now been awarded the renowned eLearning AWARD 2025 in the category “Virtual Learning Worlds” with a focus on “Serious Game”. This innovative learning solution combines playful ease with technical precision and is revolutionizing professional development.

34d City: Learning in a digital world

With “34d City”, Swiss Life Germany shows how game-based learning can be used specifically for professional development. The digital learning city combines real-life scenarios and gamification elements to convey the complex content of §34d training in an accessible and sustainable way. The project is aimed in particular at Generations Y and Z, who prefer modern and interactive learning methods.

More than just a game

The aim of the project is to establish game-based learning as an integral part of education and training and to improve the quality of knowledge transfer. Two main target groups benefit from this solution

  • Sales trainees: learners completing the §34d specialist training. They use the serious game to practice difficult content in a fun and practical way.
  • Experienced sales partners: Consultants and managers who want to refresh their knowledge and collect legally required training hours.

Development and Implementation

User research played a central role in the development of “34d City” from the very beginning. Swiss Life already had very clear ideas, but Centigrade started from scratch with extensive user research. Our team played a key role in the design and development of the software.
The first step was to develop the core game loop: Learners help potential customers in different neighborhoods with problems. They earn trust points for correct answers. Sufficient trust leads to recommendations and new questions. This mechanism is based on a philanthropic strategy and the accumulation of progress – motivations that reward both helping and achieving goals.

The first section focused on the legal foundations. We then extended the general principle of the game to other areas of expertise. The case files and sources in our game are central elements: Terms in the answer options are highlighted in blue and link to definitions and background information. The case file collects all customer information in a timeline.
We tested a prototype early on and incorporated feedback directly into further development. This ensured that the solution was optimized and tailored to user needs.

Success and recognition

After the rollout in all Swiss Life sales offices, the feedback was consistently positive. Users emphasized the comprehensibility of the learning content and the motivating design of the training processes. In the long term, “34d City” will remain expandable and flexible in order to meet future requirements.

Award-winning innovation

For all these reasons, the jury of the eLearning Journal awarded Swiss Life Deutschland Vertriebsservice GmbH and Centigrade with the eLearning AWARD 2025. We are proud and congratulate everyone involved for this outstanding achievement!
